Participants should be familiar with linear algebra, differential and integral calculus for functions in two or more variables, surface and volume integrals, Einstein summation convention, basics of ordinary and partial differential equations, and basics of differential geometry.

Obiettivi formativi
Subject of the course are the Cauchy problem for Einstein equations, topics related to the study of differential operators on smooth manifolds, and mathematical techniques used in this connection. This includes, in particular, basic concepts from the theory of function spaces used in this context as well as elements of the theory of pseudo-differential operators.- Oggetto:
Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course, participants will have learned some basic concepts for the analysis of partial differential equations on smooth manifolds and the Cauchy problem for Einstein equations. This will put them in the position to presume autonomously further studies in the field of partial differential equations.- Oggetto:
Lectures for a total of 48 hours, divided in two parts of 24 hours each, one focusing on Einstein equations, the other on more analytical aspects. The course will take place in lecture rooms using black board and possibly overhead projectors and other multi-media tools.

One oral examination after the end of the course. For this examination the student will give a talk of about 60 minutes on an argument treated in the course and agreed on with the instructors. The student must demonstrate his ability to present this argument in a concise, clearly structured, and mathematically correct way. The evaluation of the oral examination results in a final grade, expressed in thirtieth.- Oggetto:
In the beginning of the course participants and instructors will discuss the need of organizing additional tutorial classes to help participants to meet the required prerequisites.- Oggetto:
